'Stitch in Time' Birthday Card

Hello Everyone

Here is another card I have made recently. For this card I used the 'stitch in time' collection for Tattered Lace.

This time I decided to make an birthday easel card using a 6x6 card blank.

Items used:

- Patchwork Elephant - Tattered Lace Collection 'Stitch in Time' using the paper piecing technique
- Plaid embossing folder - Tattered Lace 'stitch in time' collection
- Red, white and blue star backing paper - printed from tatty twinkle cd

Originally, as per picture, I left the front of the head and a leg of the elephant white... however, I later changed this because I didn't think it stood out enough. The picture below shows the finished card with the new changes

I like how this card turned out and I think the elephant looks cute :)

1st Christmas Card

Morning everyone

I've recently purchased some dies for my Christmas cards this year.

I was really anxious to try them out so here is a card I made at the weekend using the Santa die from Tonic Studios.

I really enjoyed making this card and used a technique i have never used before - paper piecing.

I cut the santa die out 3 times in different colours; 1 in red, 1 in black and 1 in white. I used the black die to give me the outline of santa and stuck him onto a white oval (cut out using a oval die) and then used the waste to fill in the bits that should be black - i.e. his boots and belt. I continued with this theme by filling in the white parts (beard, fluff on his coat, hat and boots) and again with the red (santa's hat and coat).

To put the card together I used a 6x6 card blank and for my mat and layers I cut out different size squares in red and white. I also cut out a red mat for the oval to help it stand out. I thought the white layer was rather bland so ran it through an embossing folder from crafter's companion (textures 8x8 - snow). For the sentiment i used a crafters companion 'merry christmas' die and kept to the theme of red and white layers. To finish the card off and fill in the white space I decided to use nuvo drops from Tonic studios, and used a clear sparkle pen to make the white areas on Santa sparkle.

Hope you like this card as much as I do.... this is my first ever handmade christmas card.

More about Me

Hi Everyone,

How are we all today?

Well, I thought I had better introduce myself a little bit to start the blog off before I get into the crafty side of my life.

So let's begin...

My name is Naomi and I am 29 years of age. I live in Kent, UK with my 4 children - 3 boys and a girl ranging in ages from 4 - 10. My oldest has autism and ADHD and my other 2 boys are awaiting diagnosis/assessment for little problems they have too.

I am currently a stay at home mum and I am also studying for a BA (hons) degree with the Open University in Combined Social Science with Politics. I am about to embark on my final year with my last module with will begin in the new academic year and I am due to graduate this time next year. It will have most definitely been a very trying 6 years but I can't wait to finally have my degree.

I also volunteer weekly at one of the local Brownie units. I have been involved with Girl Guiding since I was 5 by becoming a Rainbow and working my way through the sections until becoming a leader over 10 years ago. I am currently the assistant brownie guider at the unit I am working with and have been there for over 2 years.

So what about the crafty side of my life? Well, I have always enjoyed craft from a young age and I have tried quite a variety of different things like glass painting, silk painting, calligraphy and cross stitching (to name a few). However, very recently I have been intrigued and am now trying my hand at card making. I'm still very much a newbie with this hobby but I must say, so far, I am loving it and learning new tips and techniques everyday, especially with die cutting and stamping.

Another hobby that I have been doing for the last year is adult colouring. For someone who suffers with depression and anxiety, I have found it very therapeutic and have enjoyed being lost in a book when I get some downtime.

So what things am I going to post on my blog?

I am hoping to post cards I have made and will try my hardest to list what items I have used, incase anyone likes the looks of something to add to their own stash. I'm also thinking that once a month I might share with you some of my adult colouring that I have completed or in the process of doing.

Well I think that is enough waffle for today. I will start posting cards, adult colouring etc asap.

Happy crafting to all!

Love Naomi xx
